(As promised I wanted to highlight a vendor I used for my wedding so that I can share some local Nashville wedding vendors to help any brides-to-be AND to highlight some awesome businesses in the Middle TN area)

JR & Co Salon

This week I wanted to give a huge shout-out to the very talented Jenna Roberts of JR & Co Salon (Nashville, TN). She not only is my go-to hair  person for my awesome pixie cut, BUT she does hair + makeup for weddings as a side venture. Having Jenna as a part of #DollyTysTheKnot was such a blessing because she has such a joyful, friendly, and lovely spirit. She literally took so much of her time to help transform me into a beautiful bride for my wedding day! I like telling everyone that on June 18th, I felt the most beautiful I have ever felt in my entire life (mostly because I was so excited to marry my best friend-but also because Jenna did an amazing job on my hair + makeup AND she even did my Mom’s, Mother-in-Law’s, & the Maid of Honor’s Hair/Makeup as well). Overall, I had a very positive experience working with Jenna! She was fun to be around, and made the first part of my wedding day so much fun + relaxing!

So…if you are a bride-to-be in the Nashville area, please consider booking Jenna Roberts for your special day! She will even do a consultation with you before your actual wedding day to figure out the best style + look you are wanting! (Or…if you are even looking for someone to do your hair &/or color please consider booking an appointment with Jenna! You won’t regret it!)

Here are some photos with the talented Jenna Roberts, enjoy!

DollyDelong: Sewing Desk Painting Project with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint

DollyDelong: Sewing Desk Painting Project with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint

About three years ago I purchased this very old and used desk off of Craigslist for $35 and I had every intention of repainting it a bright mint green color (at the time), but I never got around to doing this project mostly because life was pretty busy and I didn’t have much motivation to work on most house projects (#honesty).

Fast forward to 2016: I was newly engaged, planning a wedding AND my fiancé (now sweet husband) owned a house! SO I had the opportunity to decide how I wanted my creative space (sewing room) to look like in my future home (since my  husband-Ty-had an extra bedroom which he so graciously let me have as my sewing room). The first major project I decided to tackle  was to FINALLY paint my old desk. Instead of painting it the bright mint green I originally imagined, I decided to research some Annie Sloan paint colors and I finally settled on Provence Blue (a turquoise blue-green color). The project itself took several days because I had to paint two coats of the Provence Blue + one coat of The Annie Sloan Wax to finish off the desk. (And, by the way, I was very grateful that I had Gilmore Girls streaming on Netflix to keep me company during the long hours of tedious painting!)

Anyway, I wanted to share the before and after photos of this project! I am actually VERY proud of how well this desk turned out, and it fit so perfectly in my new sewing room! (NOTE: I took these all on my iPhone6 so the photos are pretty low-quality-so I’m sorry!)

Here’s the final product of the sewing room as well (please note the sewing room is also the “library” as well!) I also added a picture of me at my desk because I’m super pumped about having such a fun creative space to work in!

Thanks for reading! I hope this encourages you all to get creative and do something new for your living space (apartment, house, etc.) Also, don’t be afraid of trying something new if you decide to do a small DIY project (like Chalk-painting a small chair for example). There are thousands of tutorials on YouTube & Pinterest, and I would def recommend starting off small just to give yourself some confidence & practice! You got this! Happy Weekend!

Market Town Coffee

Ty and I were honored to have MTC as part of our special day for #DollyTysTheKnot. Laura and Cody (the owners of MarketTownCoffee) are an amazing, godly, and fun couple to be around! I (Dolly) learned about Market Town Coffee from a very random Facebook post that a mutual friend shared about an iced coffee stand business in Alabama. Out of curiosity, I clicked on the link and immediately fell in love with everything I learned about MarketTown.

It’s Mission Statement: Market Town Coffee Company is a non-profit missional coffee company that The Bell family (Cody +Laura Bell) built from the ground up. They partner monthly with organizations that are fighting human trafficking and are using their small business to fight this horrible growing epidemic.

When I read about their mission & and where their hearts are for using this company to serve the Kingdom of God, I immediately asked Ty if we could book them for our wedding! Cody + Laura were easy to schedule meetings with, were easy to work with (very communicative), their prices were very reasonable, and their set up was super cute + trendy . Did I mention their iced coffee was probably one of the best cups of coffee both me and Ty have had in a LONG time?

If you are looking to hire an amazing Iced-Coffee Stand for your special event &/or Wedding Day, please be sure to get in touch with MarketTownCoffee (Cody + Laura Bell)! Again, they are so much fun to work with and you will LOVE getting to know more about their mission as a company and as a couple!

Here are some pictures highlighting and featuring this great couple + their unique and cute coffee bike stand!

Happy Viewing!

Dolly DeLong: Our Honeymoon in Vancouver, B.C. + Victoria, B.C.

Dolly DeLong: Our Honeymoon in Vancouver, B.C. + Victoria, B.C.

Ty planned the perfect honeymoon! My only requests for him were: please no beach resorts (b/c I’m not a beach-type of woman + I didn’t want to wear a swimsuit and feel awful about my donut-loving body), please no humid/hot climate destinations (because living in the south is killing me in the summers), and please consider going to the Mountains (because I want to explore and hike outside). Well, Ty did a perfect job planning our honeymoon-he planned a trip to the great Northwest (Specifically Vancouver, B.C. and Victoria, B.C.)!

(The best advice we received while planning our honeymoon was from my Grandma Dee. She told us to try to leave 2 or 3 days AFTER the wedding because the wedding would exhaust us and we would need time to rest before hitting the ground running with travels again. We are SO happy we listened to her! We had our wedding on June 18th and decided to leave on Monday June 20th (two days after the wedding). That gave us plenty of time to rest/sleep-in and process the wedding together, without having to rush around and immediately hop on a plane to Canada hours after walking down the aisle!)

We tried to stay pretty chill while honeymooning in Canada-meaning, we didn’t jam pack our days with so many things to do. I am very happy Ty is a fun travel companion and went with the flow with everything-that made traveling really fun and relaxing for me (esp when Air Canada decided to cancel our first flight on us-oh boy!) Here is what we did while in Canada:

  • Explored Vancouver, B.C.
  • Ate ALOT Of food (including delicious donuts) in Vancouver
  • Went to the Capilano Suspension Bridge Park (outside of Vancouver)
  • Went to Lighthouse Park (outside of Vancouver)
  • Explored and Biked around Stanley Park in Vancouver
  • Continued to eat too much food…
  • Took a fancy ferry to Victoria (Vancouver Island B.C.)
  • Explored Victoria, B.C.
  • Went Whale Watching in Victoria
  • Drove up and explored the Wild Pacific Trail/Coast
  • And did I mention…we may or may  not have eaten our weight in food (esp Donuts)

Here are some low-quality iPhone Photos we took to capture our fun adventure along the way!

Thanks for reading! Love, Dolly DeLong

Dolly DeLong: My Wedding Day June 18th, 2016 (#DollyTysTheKnot)

June 18th, 2016 was one of the happiest days of my life because I not only got to marry my love and best-friend, Ty, but I also got to celebrate with all the most important people in my (and Ty’s) life! Being with the people I love the most on this earth was probably one of the biggest highlights of my wedding because I just have so many great and lifelong memories with everyone who was present (from every chapter of life)!  Plus, it was great getting to have all of them in the same room with me as witnesses to my commitment to Ty, and just thinking about that alone-makes my heart burst with joy! Looking through my wedding photos has been such a great reminder to me about how richly God has blessed me in abundance. Truly, I have experienced such a rich/full/lovely and amazing life as Dolly Stang, and now I cannot wait to live this adventure called life with my sweet and beloved Ty as Mrs. Dolly DeLong.  For those of you who could not make it because of time, money or distance, we missed you dearly. For those of you who we were not able to invite because of the venue’s capacity to only fit a certain number of people-thank you for still celebrating with us and loving on us! And for those of you who are just reading this for fun, I hope this post can be a good resource for you if you are planning your own wedding/special event. I have provided the vendors below (with the links to their websites), and I have included my favorite pictures highlighting our wedding! Thank you for reading, and I hope you have a blessed day!

Adventures: My Engagement Portrait Session(s)

Adventures: My Engagement Portrait Session(s)

My greatest adventure began the day Ty DeLong asked me to be his wife on December 19th, 2015 at the TN State Capital Building overlooking Nashville Bicentennial Park (to read about it click here). It has been a whirlwind since December filled with wedding planning, pre-marital counseling, registering for all of our home-goods, and just starting the slow and tedious process of merging our lives together before our actual wedding day (June 18th, 2016). It had a lot of ups, some downs (b/c of stress), but mostly  it was a very exciting journey leading towards the day I would become Mrs. Dolly DeLong. In the middle of this engagement season of life, we got to work with Justin Wright Photography  (who is one of the most talented photographers I know in Middle TN-and also who just so happens to be one of our good friends from church!) Since I have been so swamped since January of this year, I now have the time to share some of our favorite photos from both engagement sessions + share the original blog posts with you all from Justin’s website! (Note: the reason why we had two sessions is because I wanted an Indian/Bollywood themed one since I’m half-Indian + my family in India had sent some amazing Indian attire for us as gifts when we announced we were getting married. Secondly, when we announced our engagement, we realized we had to get some save-the-dates out ASAP so we had a “quick” January engagement session, and the day we originally planned with Justin happened to be on a snow-day…how cool and awesome is that?)

DollybyDesign: Essential Oil Stories {featuring} Emily T. from Alabama

DollybyDesign: Essential Oil Stories {featuring} Emily T. from Alabama

Emily’s Essential Oils Story

In May of 2015, I graduated from Lipscomb University and moved to Birmingham, AL for full-time ministry.
This was easily one of the best decisions I have ever made for myself, and most importantly a decision that the Lord wanted me to follow through on for the benefit of His Kingdom as well.
However, with the fun of packing my bags and moving to a big city to a dream job that awaited me tagged along a very unwelcome and unexpected season. One of the worst seasons of my life, as a matter of fact.
For the first four months of my time in Birmingham, I dealt with pains that were so unbearable I could not sleep at night. These pains took me to five different doctors because no one could figure me out. The only thing any of these doctors could provide was temporary relief. I took so many antibiotics during these four months that I honestly lost count (yuck), and had very painful shots in very sensitive places. Turns out, I had kidney stones. And the reason no one had figured to check for stones is because my symptoms were not commonly related to them.
So here I was, dealing with pains no one can figure out and trying to get plugged in to my job; trying to establish relationships with all of the families I have the privilege to serve, all while not being fully rested, healthy or able to pour in to this ministry that I so badly desired to.
I passed my first kidney stone right after lunch at work one day, which then led to an XRAY and later on a CAT scan, because the initial XRAY showed that I had zero remaining kidney stones. Turns out, I had three more to pass.
At this point, my health bills were out the roof. Talk about stress for someone who just moved to a big city on her own and is having to deal with all of this. I was overwhelmed big time.

Oh, but that’s not all.

After kidney stones, I came down with severe bronchitis and was on the verge of pneumonia. This kept me down for about four days and once I was back on my feet I started getting hit by multiple minor illness, which lead to visits to the doctor. “Ka-ching, ka-ching!” My health bills were blinging with dollar signs.
Did I mention in addition to these things I faced migraines and night terrors on a daily basis? I also had my wisdom teeth removed and battled four infections from that for nearly a month after my surgery.
I had just started my job and I was already missing days of work because of my health. Talk about embarrassing.
My health journey over the course of the last six months has been a physical, emotional and spiritual battle. The enemy took advantage of my vulnerability in following the anointing God placed on my life, and I let him for a while. My health plunged me into a slump of depression. It stripped from me a great amount of joy. And, if I’m being totally honest, I was no longer excited to be following the call that God placed on my life.
There were days where all I wanted to do was give up. And there were days where I woke up and decided to let God make His strength my own. I pulled through the best on these days.
As I started to draw near to the Lord in the midst of what felt like my flesh was failing, He started to provide me with the prayer warriors and resources I needed in order walk out of this tunnel of darkness into the light of a new season that awaited me. He pulled me through. He’s good at that, you know.
One of the resources He led me to was my sweet friend Dolly.
Dolly posted about Essential Oils on a regular basis in a way that drew me in. Eventually, she reached out to me and extended an invitation to her online Essential Oils class. At this point, I had already encountered EO’s through my boyfriend’s mom. One night while visiting, my head was so congested. She placed some On Guard in a diffuser and I felt so much better within the hour. Needless to say, I liked what I had experienced so far.
Dolly’s class [of course] peaked my interest in EO’s and soon after, I went for the plunge.
I was still paying off my health bills at this point, so making the decision to invest in DoTerra made me a little hesitant at first. However, I was also very aware of the fact that I needed to do something that would be beneficial for my health.
Turns out, this is an investment I am so glad I made.
Not even a week after I had gotten on the LLVs (the Doterra vitamin pack which is their #1 selling item-and it’s a vitamin!), my headaches were gone. I went a few days without drinking coffee, just to see what would happen, and didn’t experience a single caffeine withdrawal headache. My migraines that used to visit after my lunch hour were gone, too.
Did I mention that I had an increased amount of energy that same week? As a result of increased energy, I have been able to enjoy increased workouts.
Did I also mention that my first experience with Lavender was my first night night-terror free? I slept for 8.5 hours straight that night. This is the first night since I moved to Birmingham that I slept that long.
Oh, and one more thing. I’ve been on these vitamins and EO’s for almost thirty days now and I have yet to catch another minor illness. I feel SO good! And it feels so good to finally say that on a daily basis.
Can you see why I refuse to start my day without LLVs? These vitamin supplements and a full glass of water are a part of my daily protocol.
Joining DoTerra is easily one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
I don’t just have them to thank, though. My first dose of gratitude goes straight to the One who has restored my body with the health it needed.
The Lord has taught me so many lessons through this season. In turn, I am thankful that I went through what I did. I am thankful that I now get to incorporate these lessons into my life and share my story with you, as well as encourage you to be disciplined in taking care of your body in every aspect.
After this season, I thought it was appropriate for my 2016 word to be “discipline”. I want to be disciplined in listening to my body, taking care of its wants and needs and staying in tune with it the best I can, as often as I can. This includes taking Vitamins that I am fully educated on.
Over the counter vitamins just didn’t do it for me, yet I still continued taking them. Truth is, I didn’t even pay attention to what was in the women’s multivitamin gummies I was taking every morning. I thought I was doing a good deed for my body and just left it at that. I didn’t care about my lack of education on the vitamins because I believed they were doing what they were supposed to do, despite what I knew. Talk about a foolish mindset. This is a bad decision and serves as nothing but disrespectful to your body. Here’s an eye-opening visual: I took over the counter multivitamins for women for months and they did nothing for me. I started taking LLVs and not even a week later I could tell a difference. Please always educate yourself on what you put into your body!
What got me about DoTerra was their passion for informing people about what is in what they sell, as well as why it is in there and how it can benefit our bodies. They are honest and passionate about instilling a desire within people to improve their health so that they can enjoy life instead of having to worrying about which health bill goes with what health issue (been there, done that), or having to live in fear about what health issue is working its way into your calendar next (been there, done that, too). This is not the type of life we were created to live. We were made to enjoy it with an energy and health that provides for us a life-giving zest to experience this life with!
It feels so good to be on the right track again. And I look forward to traveling down this track for a long, long time.
Your body is so special. It houses the Holy Spirit! So don’t forget to take care of it. Make it your priority to transform the state of your body into a temple like no other. Don’t wait around for a rude-awakening. It’s all about choice, folks. Make the right one.

DollybyDesign: Essential Oils {My current Favorite Essential Oils that help Promote Rest}

Hello all! I have been meaning to share some of my top favorite essential oils that are my go-tos to help promote restfulness and peace for my on-the-go mind/body during my hectic travel season (with work + life).  Now, these are my five go-to essential oils, and I am not claiming that these would work for everyone/anyone. DollybyDesign Essential Oil Stories: {featuring} Alex. H. from Nashville, TN

DollybyDesign Essential Oil Stories: {featuring} Alex. H. from Nashville, TN

I (Dolly) have been using Essential Oils for the past year (Since July 2014) and ever since then, I have significantly noticed a change in my overall health, AND I have been noting change in my loved ones lives as well (friends/family who are using them). Recently, I thought it would be cool to share a personal story (at least once or twice a month) from a certain friend or family member to highlight certain oils, or just to openly share about the real benefits of how Essential oils are helping change their overall health. I really hope that these personal testimonies not only encourage you (the reader), but they also help challenge you to research and figure out what is best for your health and your overall wellness! It may not be using Essential Oils, it may be joining a gym, or changing your diet, or changing your surroundings. But my prayer for you is for you to fight for yourself, and to really enjoy the blessing of Life that God has given/granted you!

Alexandria’s story:

“I had heard of essential oils and all of the benefits, but I had never tried any for myself before. The first reason I started using oils was to alleviate menstrual cramps. During that ‘special time of the month’, I would have severe cramps, sometimes causing me to take time away from work. I had a friend who used Clary Calm to help alleviate her cramps, so I decided to give it a try. OH MY GOODNESS! Clary Calm has changed my time of the month from doom and gloom to being normal feeling days. I apply Clary Calm to my abdomen as soon as I feel any discomfort and continue to apply throughout the day. I no longer dread that time of the month anymore.  (Clary Calm not only helps balance hormones, but it also provides temporary respite from cramps , hot flashes and mood swings, what a gift!) My most recent purchase was the Lifelong Vitality Supplement Pack. I’ve been using these consistently for about two weeks, and I’ve seen a HUGE boost in energy! I’m studying for the CPA Exam and occasionally need to work long hours for my job, so this energy boost has been an amazing benefit to help me stay focused and accomplish my goals”
