Caitlyn’s Finds for July 2015

Shirt- H&M– $10
Skirt- H&M– $13
Shoes- Target $20
Necklace- Sisters of Nature (gift)

Here are some things I would wear with the striped top:
Grey Maxi skirt
rolled skinny jeans
Long linen pants
(pretty much anything flowy. I love how it fits snug so that you can pair it with anything flowy and it still show off figure just a little bit, but not too much!)

Here are some things I would wear with the skirt:
Nice silky blouse on color. (the silk would balance the texture in the skirt and dress it up)
Chambray button up with a statement necklace
Long crochet cardigan and skin fitting tank top.
Anything blue, grey, white or cream. I love the color of the skirt and how the color pops!

DollybyDesign: Dress for LESS in June 2015 {featuring} Lindsay Richardson of Nashville, TN

DollybyDesign: Dress for LESS in June 2015 {featuring} Lindsay Richardson of Nashville, TN

It’s been a while since I (Dolly) have posted for my Dress for LESS section of my blog. This past month I had the opportunity of getting to go to Europe (specifically Italy + Greece) with Lindsay Richardson (featured guest) for a vacation (since both of us are in our fabulous 30s and wanted to take a Bestie Europe Trip)! Long story short, at the very last leg of our trip, my camera equipment, my passport, my money (cash), and my debit card were stolen from me (YUP). So….I lost my nice Nikon camera that I had saved up years for my side business Twelve16Photography , and I lost ALL of my portraits I had taken of Lindsay (since I wanted to do a European feature for Dress for LESS). (That was over a month ago, since then I have been recently blessed with a brand new camera + lens// everything was restored back to me, so that I can get back to blogging + and having adventures with Photography!) SO, since we live in the “Athens of the South”, I thought it would be fun to take her portraits at Centennial Park + The Parthenon (Kind of like in Memoriam of our Athens Trip). So here were Lindsay’s finds:

1) floral scarf 4.97$ (2-pack) Walmart

 2) fuchsia v-neck T-shirt $5 (Target)

3) mint green shorts $19.99 (Target)

4) coral lacy tank 6.99$ (Ross)

5) my “plane pants” 15$ (Target)

6) brown sandals $26 (Burlington coat factory)

7) cloche tan hat $12.99 (Target)

*Note: When we were in Europe, Lindsay ROCKED these finds and really blended in well with the trendy Europeans! At times, people even came up to her and spoke to her in Greek + Italian b/c she was very well dressed and didn’t look “American/Touristy” at all! Way to go Lindsay!

DollybyDesign: Handmade in March (DIY Simple Circle Skirt)

DollybyDesign: Handmade in March (DIY Simple Circle Skirt)

Wanted to share this new brilliant blue circle skirt that my friend, Alisha R., taught me how to make!

Here are the materials I used:

  • 3 yards of fabric (NOTE: please be sure to use appropriate fabric for skirts. I accidentally bought the wrong cotton blend, and now the skirt is too wrinkly and see-through b/c it’s not the appropriate thickness. But don’t worry…I wear it with thick leggings!)
  • Matching or coordinating thread
  • Sewing Machine
  • Scissors
  • Measuring Tape
  • Needles

Here is a tutorial you can use (since Alisha’s major focuses on fashion and sewing, she is the one who really helped me make my own pattern, but please use the tutorial provided-because not everyone has a personal seamstress, like Alisha, on hand!) (ALSO: a fun step to add to the circle skirt tutorial would be to incorporate pockets for your skirt-that will DEF be my next skirt project!)

I did not take step by step photos (SORRY), but here is my finished product:

(Total time: 2 hours= YAY!)

Here’s where DollybyDesign Dress for LESS comes in: I paired this brilliant blue circle skirt with a white lace top from Forever21 ($15.80) & a gold necklace from Forever21 ($6.00) (which, FYI ALL their Jewelry is 30% OFF this week, and their jewelry is already super cheap…so go check it out!)

Once again, thanks for reading! Happy Spring (or should I say…Happy Never-Ending Winter)

Love, DollybyDesign

DollybyDesign: Dress for LESS March spotlight {Shawn Despot of Nashville, TN}

DollybyDesign: Dress for LESS March spotlight {Shawn Despot of Nashville, TN}

I have decided that in addition to my monthly features of the $50 challenge in dressing for Less with DollybyDesign,  I also wanted to try to do a monthly spotlight comparing a (specific) outfit sold at a high-end store versus buying a similar//same outfit a budget-friendly store.

This month (March), my friend/co-worker, Shawn Despot, was gracious and kind enough to help me with this first spotlight post! Shawn found a beautiful Maxi Red/Gray Striped Dress from TJ Maxx priced at $17.99 (which, of course, she bought immediately because it was gorgeous and perfect for Spring Break!) Right after her quick shopping trip to TJ Maxx, she went to Anthropologie to browse and found the EXACT same dress (but in a different color) for $118.00!!!! (So Shawn saved about $100 on this find! Way to go Shawn!)

So, here is the Anthro dress (priced at $118.00):

And here is Shawn’s $17.99 Dress found at TJ Maxx (note: she has dressed up this outfit  in three different ways to show the reader/viewer that you can have variety with this fun find!)

In no way am I bashing Anthropologie (or high-end stores), but I am simply just helping shoppers see that there ARE cheaper (and more affordable) ways to shop on a budget, and you can still look GOOD!  Challenge yourself to seek out current fashion finds//trends, but at a cheaper price (outside of thrift stores)! It is possible, and it is so much fun to share with others!

Once again, here is the beautiful Shawn D., wearing her fun find from TJ Maxx:

Thank you so much Shawn! You are so much fun to work with, and I am so happy GOD has blessed me with a friend like you! I hope you are enjoying your Spring Break in Sunny California!

If you are a reader, you can go to these same stores and score these looks for the same price!
