Emily’s Essential Oils Story

In May of 2015, I graduated from Lipscomb University and moved to Birmingham, AL for full-time ministry.
This was easily one of the best decisions I have ever made for myself, and most importantly a decision that the Lord wanted me to follow through on for the benefit of His Kingdom as well.
However, with the fun of packing my bags and moving to a big city to a dream job that awaited me tagged along a very unwelcome and unexpected season. One of the worst seasons of my life, as a matter of fact.
For the first four months of my time in Birmingham, I dealt with pains that were so unbearable I could not sleep at night. These pains took me to five different doctors because no one could figure me out. The only thing any of these doctors could provide was temporary relief. I took so many antibiotics during these four months that I honestly lost count (yuck), and had very painful shots in very sensitive places. Turns out, I had kidney stones. And the reason no one had figured to check for stones is because my symptoms were not commonly related to them.
So here I was, dealing with pains no one can figure out and trying to get plugged in to my job; trying to establish relationships with all of the families I have the privilege to serve, all while not being fully rested, healthy or able to pour in to this ministry that I so badly desired to.
I passed my first kidney stone right after lunch at work one day, which then led to an XRAY and later on a CAT scan, because the initial XRAY showed that I had zero remaining kidney stones. Turns out, I had three more to pass.
At this point, my health bills were out the roof. Talk about stress for someone who just moved to a big city on her own and is having to deal with all of this. I was overwhelmed big time.

Oh, but that’s not all.

After kidney stones, I came down with severe bronchitis and was on the verge of pneumonia. This kept me down for about four days and once I was back on my feet I started getting hit by multiple minor illness, which lead to visits to the doctor. “Ka-ching, ka-ching!” My health bills were blinging with dollar signs.
Did I mention in addition to these things I faced migraines and night terrors on a daily basis? I also had my wisdom teeth removed and battled four infections from that for nearly a month after my surgery.
I had just started my job and I was already missing days of work because of my health. Talk about embarrassing.
My health journey over the course of the last six months has been a physical, emotional and spiritual battle. The enemy took advantage of my vulnerability in following the anointing God placed on my life, and I let him for a while. My health plunged me into a slump of depression. It stripped from me a great amount of joy. And, if I’m being totally honest, I was no longer excited to be following the call that God placed on my life.
There were days where all I wanted to do was give up. And there were days where I woke up and decided to let God make His strength my own. I pulled through the best on these days.
As I started to draw near to the Lord in the midst of what felt like my flesh was failing, He started to provide me with the prayer warriors and resources I needed in order walk out of this tunnel of darkness into the light of a new season that awaited me. He pulled me through. He’s good at that, you know.
One of the resources He led me to was my sweet friend Dolly.
Dolly posted about Essential Oils on a regular basis in a way that drew me in. Eventually, she reached out to me and extended an invitation to her online Essential Oils class. At this point, I had already encountered EO’s through my boyfriend’s mom. One night while visiting, my head was so congested. She placed some On Guard in a diffuser and I felt so much better within the hour. Needless to say, I liked what I had experienced so far.
Dolly’s class [of course] peaked my interest in EO’s and soon after, I went for the plunge.
I was still paying off my health bills at this point, so making the decision to invest in DoTerra made me a little hesitant at first. However, I was also very aware of the fact that I needed to do something that would be beneficial for my health.
Turns out, this is an investment I am so glad I made.
Not even a week after I had gotten on the LLVs (the Doterra vitamin pack which is their #1 selling item-and it’s a vitamin!), my headaches were gone. I went a few days without drinking coffee, just to see what would happen, and didn’t experience a single caffeine withdrawal headache. My migraines that used to visit after my lunch hour were gone, too.
Did I mention that I had an increased amount of energy that same week? As a result of increased energy, I have been able to enjoy increased workouts.
Did I also mention that my first experience with Lavender was my first night night-terror free? I slept for 8.5 hours straight that night. This is the first night since I moved to Birmingham that I slept that long.
Oh, and one more thing. I’ve been on these vitamins and EO’s for almost thirty days now and I have yet to catch another minor illness. I feel SO good! And it feels so good to finally say that on a daily basis.
Can you see why I refuse to start my day without LLVs? These vitamin supplements and a full glass of water are a part of my daily protocol.
Joining DoTerra is easily one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
I don’t just have them to thank, though. My first dose of gratitude goes straight to the One who has restored my body with the health it needed.
The Lord has taught me so many lessons through this season. In turn, I am thankful that I went through what I did. I am thankful that I now get to incorporate these lessons into my life and share my story with you, as well as encourage you to be disciplined in taking care of your body in every aspect.
After this season, I thought it was appropriate for my 2016 word to be “discipline”. I want to be disciplined in listening to my body, taking care of its wants and needs and staying in tune with it the best I can, as often as I can. This includes taking Vitamins that I am fully educated on.
Over the counter vitamins just didn’t do it for me, yet I still continued taking them. Truth is, I didn’t even pay attention to what was in the women’s multivitamin gummies I was taking every morning. I thought I was doing a good deed for my body and just left it at that. I didn’t care about my lack of education on the vitamins because I believed they were doing what they were supposed to do, despite what I knew. Talk about a foolish mindset. This is a bad decision and serves as nothing but disrespectful to your body. Here’s an eye-opening visual: I took over the counter multivitamins for women for months and they did nothing for me. I started taking LLVs and not even a week later I could tell a difference. Please always educate yourself on what you put into your body!
What got me about DoTerra was their passion for informing people about what is in what they sell, as well as why it is in there and how it can benefit our bodies. They are honest and passionate about instilling a desire within people to improve their health so that they can enjoy life instead of having to worrying about which health bill goes with what health issue (been there, done that), or having to live in fear about what health issue is working its way into your calendar next (been there, done that, too). This is not the type of life we were created to live. We were made to enjoy it with an energy and health that provides for us a life-giving zest to experience this life with!
It feels so good to be on the right track again. And I look forward to traveling down this track for a long, long time.
Your body is so special. It houses the Holy Spirit! So don’t forget to take care of it. Make it your priority to transform the state of your body into a temple like no other. Don’t wait around for a rude-awakening. It’s all about choice, folks. Make the right one.

DollybyDesign Essential Oil Stories: {featuring} Alex. H. from Nashville, TN

DollybyDesign Essential Oil Stories: {featuring} Alex. H. from Nashville, TN

I (Dolly) have been using Essential Oils for the past year (Since July 2014) and ever since then, I have significantly noticed a change in my overall health, AND I have been noting change in my loved ones lives as well (friends/family who are using them). Recently, I thought it would be cool to share a personal story (at least once or twice a month) from a certain friend or family member to highlight certain oils, or just to openly share about the real benefits of how Essential oils are helping change their overall health. I really hope that these personal testimonies not only encourage you (the reader), but they also help challenge you to research and figure out what is best for your health and your overall wellness! It may not be using Essential Oils, it may be joining a gym, or changing your diet, or changing your surroundings. But my prayer for you is for you to fight for yourself, and to really enjoy the blessing of Life that God has given/granted you!

Alexandria’s story:

“I had heard of essential oils and all of the benefits, but I had never tried any for myself before. The first reason I started using oils was to alleviate menstrual cramps. During that ‘special time of the month’, I would have severe cramps, sometimes causing me to take time away from work. I had a friend who used Clary Calm to help alleviate her cramps, so I decided to give it a try. OH MY GOODNESS! Clary Calm has changed my time of the month from doom and gloom to being normal feeling days. I apply Clary Calm to my abdomen as soon as I feel any discomfort and continue to apply throughout the day. I no longer dread that time of the month anymore.  (Clary Calm not only helps balance hormones, but it also provides temporary respite from cramps , hot flashes and mood swings, what a gift!) My most recent purchase was the Lifelong Vitality Supplement Pack. I’ve been using these consistently for about two weeks, and I’ve seen a HUGE boost in energy! I’m studying for the CPA Exam and occasionally need to work long hours for my job, so this energy boost has been an amazing benefit to help me stay focused and accomplish my goals”

Susan’s Essential Oils Story

“I started using essential oils because I got tired of experiencing side effects of traditional medicine. I also believe many of the answers to our health questions can be found in nature. I have only started trying oils, but so far the best ones for me have been peppermint, oregano, digestive blend for stomach issues, soothing blend, and joyful blend, which has been great for uplifting my mood.  My whole family has benefited from using Essential Oils and I look forward to trying all of what they have to offer, including the Vitality Supplements.”

Lindsay’s Story/Testimony with Essential Oils

“I was a little skeptical at first about the idea of using “oils”– but I heard Dolly talk about it so much and the many ways it has helped her so much, and I’ve heard several good friends of mine, Lacey and Rachel say the same– so I went to a class taught by Lacey and Rachel and learned a lot. I decided I would at least try out just a few. I started off with Frankincense (taking 1-2 drops at night) and 1-2 drops each morning. I also was using soothing blend+ lotion. I had a torn rib cartilage that I was having trouble healing from…it was off and on sore and in pain or inflamed. When Dolly and I took a trip to Europe for 2 weeks I was really worried that my muscles/rib area would be really sore etc. I used the Frankincense and soothing blend daily and the LLP mixture that Dolly let me use while in Europe helped protect me against the seasonal elements Also, my allergies were acting up a lot in Europe so I used Dolly’s oils lemon mixed with peppermint, and also lavender -they helped maintain clear breathing and helped protect me against the environmental elements while I traveled. I highly recommend checking into essential oils (an all natural way) to any health issues you may have!”

DollybyDesign ADVENTURES: Scotland The Brave {March 2015}

DollybyDesign ADVENTURES: Scotland The Brave {March 2015}

Hello lovely readers! After my mission trip to India this March {2015}, I had a 3 day layover in Edinburgh, Scotland (to recruit for my University), AND to visit one of my good friends who is getting her MFA at the University of Edinburgh. It was a whirlwind excursion, but it was 150% worth every moment in this beautiful & colorful country.

I still cannot believe I was blessed with this opportunity after an amazing trip to India, but I am totally over the moon excited/happy/thrilled/& blessed that I got to participate in this fun adventure!

Again, every opportunity you get, go out and travel/adventure/ & explore this beautiful world we live in!

(Still smiling and grinning ear-to-ear that I got  to have this amazing work + “Spring Break” experience)

These ‘amazing’ low-quality photos were taken on my iPhone 5, and were taken in Edinburgh and Stirling, Scotland.

Enjoy and Never Forget to Continue to Live Bravely and Live out your Unique Adventures in Kindness!

DollyByDesign: ADVENTURES in Mumbai, India {March 2015}

DollyByDesign: ADVENTURES in Mumbai, India {March 2015}

Hello Friends! It has been such a long time since I have last posted {and I am incredibly sorry for my long absence} BUT… “I’M BACK!!!!!” (as Rowdy Rathore would say…and only a select few would actually get that reference-HAH)

2015 has been quite the adventurous year for me, and it’s only March (well technically it’s April 1st, but for this Post’s sake…it’s still March 31st)! Not only has 2015 been my first year in my 30s, but it’s also been a year of tremendously fun/positive/lovely/and amazing changes in my life! And one of these changes has definitely been more travel opportunities to explore new areas of this beautiful world we live in!

To kickstart my 2015 year of adventuring, I co-led a mission trip to India with Lipscomb Missions and Ethos Church (now, this wasn’t my first time going to India…it was actually my 27th or 28th trip…I kind of have lost count by this point…but it was technically my 3rd trip leading a team of people to my most favorite country in the world). Those 10 days serving alongside my friends//my brothers and sisters in Christ, was an incredible and amazing experience, and you can read about more here (my good friend, Justin Wright, of Justin Wright Photography, went on the trip with me and documented the experience perfectly).

BUT…AFTER my 10 day mission trip, I actually had the privilege of getting to stay 2 extra days in India and recruit Internationally for Lipscomb Admissions in the city of Mumbai. It’s always a little lame traveling by myself at times (even though I am a proud Introvert…I do enjoy company every now and then) so it was fun having my good friend, Danielle, tag along with me for the remainder of the trip (since she participated in the 10 day mission trip and wanted to see more of India just for the fun of it)!

Again, the majority of my trip to Mumbai was spent recruiting international students for my University, but Danielle and I had several hours to ourselves after a business meeting so we did the most logical thing any traveller would do: we adventured in Mumbai and decided to explore the Elephanta Caves & take a ferry ride along the Mumbai Coast!

So…the following pictures just document:

1)  our time on our extremely long ferry ride (where, note: we definitely witnessed a little too much ‘bromance’ going on)

2) our time exploring the historical and world-famous Elephanta Caves

3) our time taking obnoxious jumping pictures and selfies in front of the Gateway of India

As always, I hope you enjoy these low-quality iPhone photos….but most importantly I hope this encourages you all to go out and ADVENTURE (and have fun wherever you are & have fun in whatever stage of life you are in) Life is def a blessing from God, and enjoy every moment He’s given you!!!!

God bless!

Love, DollybyDesign
