DollybyDesign: Essential Oils {My current Favorite Essential Oils that help Promote Rest}

Hello all! I have been meaning to share some of my top favorite essential oils that are my go-tos to help promote restfulness and peace for my on-the-go mind/body during my hectic travel season (with work + life).  Now, these are my five go-to essential oils, and I am not claiming that these would work for everyone/anyone. My best advice (if you were interested in trying out essential oils) would be to start with one, and then work your way from there (see what works for you, and what doesn’t work for you! Remember, every BODY is different).  Since I have been using these for over a year, I have discovered that these are my favorites, so I wanted to share what I use during travel season (work) to promote a better peaceful and restful environment for myself {After all a happy & restful Dolly = a more productive and active Dolly!} I hope these insights can encourage you in your own health journey! Remember to please consult your doctor if you have any health related questions first (that is what I did before I began my own health journey)// knowledge is power!

DollybyDesign Essential Oil Stories: {featuring} Alex. H. from Nashville, TN

I (Dolly) have been using Essential Oils for the past year (Since July 2014) and ever since then, I have significantly noticed a change in my overall health, AND I have been noting change in my loved ones lives as well (friends/family who are using them). Recently, I thought it would be cool to share a personal story (at least once or twice a month) from a certain friend or family member to highlight certain oils, or just to openly share about the real benefits of how Essential oils are helping change their overall health. I really hope that these personal testimonies not only encourage you (the reader), but they also help challenge you to research and figure out what is best for your health and your overall wellness! It may not be using Essential Oils, it may be joining a gym, or changing your diet, or changing your surroundings. But my prayer for you is for you to fight for yourself, and to really enjoy the blessing of Life that God has given/granted you!

Alexandria’s story:

“I had heard of essential oils and all of the benefits, but I had never tried any for myself before. The first reason I started using oils was to alleviate menstrual cramps. During that ‘special time of the month’, I would have severe cramps, sometimes causing me to take time away from work. I had a friend who used Clary Calm to help alleviate her cramps, so I decided to give it a try. OH MY GOODNESS! Clary Calm has changed my time of the month from doom and gloom to being normal feeling days. I apply Clary Calm to my abdomen as soon as I feel any discomfort and continue to apply throughout the day. I no longer dread that time of the month anymore.  (Clary Calm not only helps balance hormones, but it also provides temporary respite from cramps , hot flashes and mood swings, what a gift!) My most recent purchase was the Lifelong Vitality Supplement Pack. I’ve been using these consistently for about two weeks, and I’ve seen a HUGE boost in energy! I’m studying for the CPA Exam and occasionally need to work long hours for my job, so this energy boost has been an amazing benefit to help me stay focused and accomplish my goals”

Susan’s Essential Oils Story

“I started using essential oils because I got tired of experiencing side effects of traditional medicine. I also believe many of the answers to our health questions can be found in nature. I have only started trying oils, but so far the best ones for me have been peppermint, oregano, digestive blend for stomach issues, soothing blend, and joyful blend, which has been great for uplifting my mood.  My whole family has benefited from using Essential Oils and I look forward to trying all of what they have to offer, including the Vitality Supplements.”

DollybyDesign: Dress for LESS (October/November 2014)

DollybyDesign: Dress for LESS (October/November 2014)

Thank you Allison Gibson (Nashville, TN) for being the October/November feature for DollybyDesign’s Dress for Less blog! Your finds are very beautiful//practical//& incredibly comfy looking!

(I, (Dolly), always enjoy hearing more about each month’s featured model, so I wanted to share some thoughts from Allison, and why she chose these specific pieces and how she is planning on using it in her everyday wardrobe) (read below)

“I am fortunate enough to work in an office where our dress is very much business casual. As a therapist, however, there is the occasional need for professional attire, so I try to pick pieces that have multiple purposes. Many pieces can also transition from the workday into nighttime and weekend wearing as well. Fall is my favorite of all the seasons, so I welcome any opportunity to add pieces to my wardrobe that allow me to layer and carry lighter items into the cooler months. I have worn at least 10 different outfits using these pieces and am excited about discovering many more” (Allison Gibson)

Here were Allison’s finds (which she paired with other staple items/clothes to make some great combinations!)

Blazer – Target $24.48
Dress – Ross $17.99
V-neck Shirt – Target $13.98
Vest – Ross $14.99
Black & White top – Wal-Mart $7.44
Brown Sweater – Ross $16.98

DollybyDesign DIY June Projects

DollybyDesign DIY June Projects

Hello lovely readers! I have been busy at work on several DIY projects and I wanted to share some easy tutorials that you could work on at home this summer (if you were in the crafty/creating mood)!

My first DIY project involves yet another skirt tutorial! I am obsessed with skirts, but it’s very hard for me to find a good length (not just for conservativeness sake, but for professionalism as well), WITH a good print (b/c unfortunately most skirts nowadays are either too short, too see-through, the fabric is ridiculous, and super inappropriate to wear in public). So after some researching, I did my own modified version of a sweet Parisian-like skirt with pockets! Here is one of the tutorials I researched ( here )  AND, of course, I utilized Pinterest for several other tutorials as well!

Here is the finished project:

*I am planning on wearing a white blouse with this skirt (but all I have for now is an old white Indian punjabi top I bought in Kolkata a few summers ago-hah-so please excuse the frumpy looking shirt!)

My second DIY involves a fun floral head wreath that I have been so excited to teach myself when I had more time for DIY projects! Here is a tutorial I followed ( here ) (and don’t forget to utilize Pinterest as well!) Here was my finished project (oh yeah, I HAVE to give a shout-out to my roomie, Courtney, for patiently teaching me how to make floral wreaths as well b/c she grew up making them in Colorado)

I am planning on selling them in my etsy shop in the weddings section, but I wanted to post my first attempt at a floral wreath and see if any of you had any feedback, questions, or suggestions for me! I am wanting to try to sell several floral wreaths as a set for wedding parties with specific colors based off of the brides color scheme!

Alright, so these were my two DIY’s for the month of June I wanted to share with you all! As always, thank you again for your support and for sharing this creative adventure with me! If you decide to try any of these DIY’s please post to my Facebook wall (DollybyDesign) so that I can see your very own creations!

Have a blessed & lovely Summer Day!

DIY with DollybyDesign: EASY shelf

DIY with DollybyDesign: EASY shelf

Hello all! It’s been a while since I’ve posted a DIY with DBD so I thought it would be fun to do a post about a shelf, that I made with my mom, for my living room. Since there was such an awkward empty space above my TV & stand, I wanted to do something homemade to make the space more “homey//comforting”

Anyway, here is the website that I used as a reference for step-by-step directions and it was VERY helpful & EASY (since I am just now beginning to learn how to build things for my home!) Please NOTE: it states that it would only take $10 to build this shelf…that is incredibly FALSE! You, the builder, will most likely have to purchase ALL the materials for the first time (b/c most likely you won’t have paint//brushes//supplies sitting around your house) and it will be around $60-$70 for the supplies! So keep that in mind, but if you plan on building more than one shelf, it will be cheaper the next time you build one!

Here is the website for step-by-step directions:

DIY Easy Shelf for Home

And for those of you who would like to see my new shelf above my TV, here are some pictures from start to finish (taken with my iPhone 5s, so please don’t judge the picture quality too much!)

I also placed my DIY Chalkboard above this shelf, here is the link for how to make one yourself: DIY Chalkboard

Once again, thank you so much for reading and for your constant support! If you would like for me to make you a shelf, message me at: dolly.stang@lipscomb.edu (they are actually ALOT of fun to make)!

Have a Blessed and Happy Saturday!

Love, DollybyDesign 🙂
